Product Description

The Hen House is proudly manufactured in the USA using the highest quality materials available. The revolutionary design meets the dimensional requirements for standard checked luggage – which means you save money every time you fly with it.

The frame and wheel bags fit nicely on the conveyer belt and will come out with regular checked luggage upon arrival at your destination. Special handling is not required for the Hen House, helping you avoid excess luggage fees.

The frame bag holds the complete bicycle frame with handlebars and fork removed. The interior pocket of the frame bag accommodates pedals, seat post, saddle, and other small accessories. The Hen House will accommodate most bikes (XS-L), but will not fit some bikes with an integrated seat post. XL frame sizes will typically fit in the Hen House with the removal of the crank.

The Hen House is compatible with most triathlon, road and mountain bikes. Watch the packing instructional video or download the instruction manual for more details.

Traveling with my bike at least 8 times a year, you can only imagine how much I have spent in bike fees with the airlines. So I have definitely gotten my money’s worth with just a few flights.

Every hard case I have ever traveled with gets busted up and latches broken within a few flights…and I have had some of the “best rated” cases. NEVER have I had any issues with damage and my case still looks like new.

Break-down and rebuilding – is it worth saving $300 each flight I take…ABSOLUTELY! And I have become a better mechanic with my bike. 15-20′ pack-up and I take a little longer to make sure it is rebuilt properly and aligned right.

Packing Room – tons a space for all gear. I never travel with another bag…but mainly because it is too hard to carry anything else.
Schlepping around: It is awful for a 5’6″ 115lb carrying to trains and other forms of transport. No big deal if you rent a car everywhere. But it is hard to carry and I bought it 4 weeks before the Armored Hen was launched so I was stuck with it. Hate the fact that it doesn’t have wheels.

Worth the Money, but hate to carry it – considering selling this one and getting the armored, but I have not clue who would want to buy a case that can’t be wheeled.

I bought the Armored Hen House per suggestions from buddies in the bike industry. I moved to China for the next 1+ years and needed transportation. I’m a bike guy so I wanted to take my OWN bike. I was able to take everything I needed with room to spare. It is a great product and love it. The downside was that I had to pay a bike fee… WTF, Delta sucks. I tried to explain to them that according to their policy it wasn’t a over-sized bag but the lady didn’t budge. So I don’t think it’s the bags fault I think it’s the uninformed employees behind the desk. All in all I’m very pleased with my purchase. Thanks Ruster Sports and the state of IOWA!

I recently traveled to Italy with the Ruster Hen House. There were no bag fees coming or going and my bike arrived in perfect shape. I’ve been on many past bike trips with the old, huge plastic bike boxes. What a treat it was to take the Hen House instead. Thanks Ruster. What a great product!

This product lives up to the hype. No oversized baggage fees. I am not a mechanically inclined bike person and was a little leery when I watched the YouTube video and disassembling my bike. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was and little knowledge you need. I was able to take apart and pack everything in about an hour. Reassembling the bike was very easy too. This product is great and within couple of flights, it will have paid for itself from the savings of the excess baggage fees. I checked both the Hen House and the Wheel bag for both flights and paid $60 each way for both. Delta charges $175 and US Air charges $200 each way for oversized luggage. And TriBike Transport charges $150 each way. I was told that I could carry on the wheel bag and not pay the 2nd checked bag, but I already had two carry-on’s and I was traveling by myself. If the wheel bag doesn’t fit in the overhead compartment, the flight attendants will check it for you for free. Saving another $70 round trip. Plus I was able to store the majority of my race gear in the Hen House and Wheel bag and still was way under the weight requirement.

The one drawback I have about the regular Hen House is that it is very difficult to carry everything. Most people will have some sort of roller bag and or a backpack, plus the Hen House and Wheel Bag. Traveling by yourself and walking from your car to the check-in counter is a task. It isn’t heavy by any means, just awkward due to the largeness of the two bags and trying to pull your roller bag. If the Hen House had backpack straps, like golf bags, this would be absolutely perfect.

I would absolutely recommend this to a friend or fellow racer. I friend used TriBike Transport and I spoke to some people at the counter and told them about the Hen House and how easy it was to take apart and put back together and the savings. This is a great product and if you travel or want to travel with your bike, it well worth the money. Now that I have it, I will be taking my bike with me on trips a lot more frequently. Thanks for the great product and look forward to using it a lot more in the future.

We live on Guam (in the middle of the Pacific), therefore we travel to many races. We recently participated in Ironman New Zealand and took 2 bikes in 2 Hen Houses. This bike case makes carrying your bike a breeze. We wrapped the wheel bag strap onto our roller board luggage and carried the bike on our shoulder. Easy to travel with for the solo athlete. Also, the airline agents didn’t say a word about them. No questions. No fees. The staff at Ruster Sports are great at customer service and I highly recommend them and their great product. We have some friends that went to NZ with us and liked our cases so much they are ordering their own to use out here. Thanks for everything!

I shopped around a lot before buying the Hen House. I was a little worried about the wrenching and “smuggling” the bike passed the bag check. Fortunately, it was a straight forward and easy process.

I counted 8 Allen bolts that needed loosened. I timed myself at 30 minutes packing and 22 minutes reassembling. Then, I spent $40 checking an extra bag with Delta instead of the $150-200 each way my buddies got charged with bike cases.

The soft case is a non-issue. Everything is so tight and shielded, it could be dropped out of the airplane with no issues.

I can’t say enough how glad I am to have chosen the Hen House.

I’ve flown three separate flights with my Hen House case. Although packing the bike the first time was a little tricky (the most difficult part was cutting up all the packing tubes to fit my bike), now I can be ready to rock in no time. The case included everything that was needed to keep your bike safe, which was awesome. I didn’t even get asked what was in bag by a single airline and was able to fly with it as regular luggage. I recommend not wearing a shirt with anything cycling related on it, so that no one becomes the wiser to what’s happening. There was plenty of space within the case to pack all I needed for a two week training and racing trip too!!

I was an original user of one of the first Hen House’s……it amounted to a Ruster Sports idea….a cardboard box and some padding. Once they perfected the current version, it was a no brainer to add to my collection of “must haves”. I’ve traveled all over the world using my Hen House and have always only paid for a standard piece of luggage. Most importantly, it is very convenient and easy to use, and it protects the carbon fiber machine inside! My 14 year old has also used it and carried it easily through the airport. One of my favorite things is that I can always slide it into the back seat or the trunk. I’ve put 2 bikes in the back seat of a compact car! Try that one with a regular case. I can also pack a majority of all my clothes and gear in the wheel bag and bike bag, lowering my cost even more. Great product! thanks!
